A podcast is a magical thing because it's you building intimacy with someone in public. That is crazy. Hello, and thank you for being here.
0:09
Hey, whether you found this channel intentionally or the algorithm brought you here, thank you, algorithm. I wanna say, uh, generally I'm grateful that you're here.
0:17
Now, before I begin inviting guests into the conversation and all that, I thought it would be fair to introduce myself and tell you why I'm starting this podcast. So, my name is Dr. Taiwo Ashiru-Ajue, [lip smack]
0:31
and that is the only time I'll say my last name. I was born and bred in Nigeria. I moved to Canada at the age of-- Why am I saying my age?
0:38
I moved to Canada in 2019, and interesting thing about my background, I trained as a medical doctor in Nigeria.
0:45
Yes, I get asked about that very often because of what I'm about to say next, which is that I work in tech, or at least I worked in tech for the past, past few years, past seven years, thereabout.
0:56
I've worked across various industries, finance, tech, consulting, while also building a parallel life as a, as an ordained pastor, as a creative, as a writer, as a recording artist. And so that's a bit about me.
1:10
I am a man of many talents and professions, and, uh, that brings us to why I'm starting a podcast. So, I've always had a, a very clear sense of my calling in life.
1:20
I've always known that I am going to be a global voice, and that's actually what brought me to study medicine.
1:25
For me, the medical degree was the most relevant degree I could get at a BSc level that would let me consult for people and ins- help them live fulfilling lives.
1:35
So I've, from 16, I've always been working towards the, the vision of being a coach, a guide, and the voice of help and hope to, to people, and that's actually what has brought me across all these vocations that I've participated in.
1:51
Now, while I have done a lot of cool stuff offline, I've invested also quite a bit online in social media channels over the years.
2:00
But I've not really committed to building in public the way I have in the past one year for a lot of reasons that I would be happy to share with you as we get to know one another.
2:12
But that is what this-- that's why I'm starting this podcast now.
2:17
It's about a commitment to building intentionally a new chapter of my career, and that chapter is really about doing my life's work, which is to inspire people to build their own lives according to their purpose.
2:31
That's what this show is about. Why the name? I know it's, it's a lovely name. The name Breakfast and Launch, I'm very happy to explain, is actually... I named the podcast after my album trilogy of the same title.
2:44
Yes, I have three albums titled Breakfast and Launch, Volume One, Two, and Three. And the name-- Well, let me first explain what that means, what Breakfast and Launch means.
2:54
Breakfast and Launch, breakfast is from the Nigerian slang breakfast, which i- which means heartbreak, and that's because in 2020/2021, when I started to record these songs, the songs for the first album, I lost a very dear relationship.
3:11
[crying] And the, the launch side of things is because while I had released professionally produced songs before then, in that season, my priority was to commit afresh to building a catalog as a serious recording artist.
3:27
That was really the overriding ambition that was on my mind when I moved from Nigeria to Canada, that I'm gonna start to take this even more seriously. I wanna blow. So that was what it was for me.
3:38
Breakfast, that is the heartbreak, and launch, which is I'm launching something new. And of course, it was a play on words like breakfast for the first mea-meal of the day and launch, second meal of the day.
3:48
So when I discussed my, my friend David Kenny, he's my music producer, a friend, brother, and creative partner, and he happens to be the first guest of this show.
3:58
That was intentional to honor him and, well, you'll find out when that episode comes out. But I remember when I told him that I was starting a podcast, we're like, "Yeah."
4:07
The name that I had in mind originally was Unlocked, 'cause that's how I felt in my spirit, like, "I'm unlocked."
4:12
But then he was like, "Nice concept, but we need a name that is-- that has strong intellectual property potential, like something that is unique." So we considered a few options, did a very thorough brainstorm.
4:25
Eventually, I just came back to him like, "Yo, what if we actually named it Breakfast and Launch?"
4:30
And that was so dear to me because first I wanted to immortalize that name in honor to those albums and that phase or this phase of my life.
4:39
But also, the name was very fitting because of the width of this show, the weight of it. The show is about becoming, my becoming and inspiring others to become.
4:50
The guests that come on the show are people who have built, who have become, or who are becoming. And so the name, you know, Breakfast, we're having breakfast.
4:59
That is the f- most important meal of the day, and then we launch because of the breakfast that we've had.
5:06
This-- The conversations that we'll have on this podcast are to prepare us for what we are launching in our own lives. Oh, man, I feel so good. I feel like I should preach up a storm right now.
5:15
But that is really the meaning of, of the podcast title, Breakfast and Launch. Very symbolic as you see, very personal as you see, and that's what's up with it. Why an interview podcast instead of a monologue?
5:29
That is a great question, and it's one that I want to t- want to answer, nobody asked.
5:33
The reason I, I conceived of the, of the vision that way first, because as I said earlier, I've always had a vision of myself as a global voice, and particularly, I've always wanted to host a talk show.
5:45
So that's the vision. That's the original vision. I just needed it to be a talk show where I'm exchanging value with established and wise people.
5:54
Now, if you know me, you- From other channels, from other work, and other stuff that I do.
5:59
You know that I have enough ideas of my own, and so for my monologues, for my direct videos, I host those through my personal channel, Taiwo Ash, so you can s- subscribe to that as well. So that's the reason.
6:12
Great conversations have changed my life. I, I enjoy learning, and I, I learn most through conversations.
6:19
You'll, you'll see that when we start, not that I learn through conversations, but that there's just a magic to conversations for me, and I want you to be part of that. That's why it's an interview podcast.
6:30
I meet a lot of incredible t- talented people who I feel so honored to, to know, and the, the interview podcast is a format that lets us transmit value between ourselves and with the world.
6:42
So that is, that is the vision. I wanna answer the question of how I choose guests.
6:48
I choose guests based on recognition, when I recognize something about them that, oh, you're, you're loaded, like, you're doing great stuff. You're amazing.
6:57
I invite people who have demonstrated resolve in pursuing purpose in their lives, people who have generated results, or people who are just sweet, nice souls that I can tell there's something about them that I need to pull out and share with the world.
7:12
So I identify those people, I build relationships with them, I invite them. Some of them are big shot people that I'm highly honored to host.
7:21
Um, and others are incredible people in my life that I just invite to share their magic with the world. And I'll use this opportunity to say a huge thank you to everyone that has come on the show.
7:33
And let me just drop a gem for you right now and say podcasting is a remarkable way to build relationships. Yeah. I've walked up to people that I was just meeting and said, "[gasps] You should come on the podcast."
7:45
And after the podcast, we built a great relationship all around the podcast. So a podcast is a magical thing because it's you building intimacy with someone in public at the same time. That is crazy. So yeah. Okay.
7:59
So that's why you should start a podcast. Yeah. So everybody that you see on the show is someone that I have vetted to some extent, to a good degree.
8:09
Anyone that you see on the show, you should be happy to, like, I'm not gonna bring just anybody for you, okay? I bring only the best of the best.
8:18
Anybody that you see on the show, take for granted that, yes, this is a good person. I can trust them. I can listen to their stuff. I can follow them on social media.
8:25
So that's the kind of people that I, I source for you, the best. And, um, yeah. So what can you expect from the conversations? Expect honest conversations. Expect long-form conversations.
8:38
We do long-form conversations over here because some ideas, some truths, some conversations deserve the room to breathe. They take space. They occupy space, and they have weight. They matter. See what I did there? Yeah.
8:53
Yeah, 1,000%. So expect that. Expect thoughtful conversations on everything that has to do with becoming and building. That includes primarily career growth and development.
9:05
That is the m- the most common basis with which I connect with people. So let me tell you, I think I mentioned this already, I'm a coach. I'm a career strategist.
9:14
I help people build visible authority that they can leverage for their next strategic role. I help people strategize and just get heard, get visible, and step into their next career chapter.
9:25
So that's what I do right now, and so that's part of why careers are the most focal point of conversation. But really, it's about everything to do with purpose.
9:34
Not all of us are gonna find our purpose from our nine-to-five. So guests that come on this show are all builders, career builders, business builders, ministry builders, art builders, all of them.
9:47
So you're gonna see a lot of that.
9:48
So expect conversations, long-form, thoughtful conversations on career, purpose, faith, creativity, relationships, excellence, and all of these are just different expressions of the same thing, building.
10:01
This is a show for builders, and I feel so emotional right now because I'm so glad that you're here. I am inviting you to be part of this. So welcome. If you are building with intention, you will feel at home here.
10:14
My name is Taiwo. I welcome you to this community. Welcome to Breakfast and Launch. I'll see you around, and I really can't wait to share all this good stuff with you
